Cattle Dog

‘Blueys’ were originally bred as herding working dogs for Australian conditions which required stamina, strength, boldness and drive. The Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) is a stocky, energetic, medium-sized dog that will live up to 13 years. That said, there's an Australian Cattle Dog, ‘Bluey’ that lived for 29 years and spent 20 years herding sheep.

Considered low maintenance, this breed doesn’t require a lot beyond regular exercise and activity. Boredom can encourage negative behaviours - interactive environments are recommended. These dogs need to have regular interaction with people and socialising them is important and should be started from a young age. The Australian Cattle Dog loves to please owners and they can be trained to do just about anything. However, it is important that they know who is boss early, and training is a part of this.

ALL PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS ARE BASED ON A HEALTHY ADULT DOG OVER 10 MONTHS AND LESS THAN 10 YEARS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY HEALTH CONCERNS ABOUT YOUR DOG CONTACT US DIRECT ON 1300 668 931.

Bark Collars For Cattle Dogs

The best type of barking collar for an adult cattle dog or blue heeler is a static electric bark collar. Typically a strong, determined working breed dog, the owners of cattle dogs traditionally have very low success rates with citronella spray collars, vibration collars, and ultrasonic bark collars. These types of collars should only be considered for young pups or very old dogs. Due to the often territorial nature of the barking and the overall stubbornness of the breed, a high quality static electric bark collar is recommended. Use the 'Product Selector' below to view the best anti-bark collars to suit your blue heeler.

As with all Dogs if you have a young pup under 8 months or a dog over 10 years we suggest you call us on 1300 688 931 for expert advice.

Containment Fence Systems For Cattle Dogs

Choosing an electric fence for a cattle dog is a rather simple matter. We only recommend a dog fence for 'Stubborn' breeds. Unfortunately, basic pet fence models may not be up to the task of keeping a highly motivated cattle dog in your yard. Use the 'Product Selector' below, to see which system/s are recommended for your dog.
