Lhasa Apso translates to "Terrier of Tibet" which is where the breede originated from. The Lhasa Apso was originally bred to guard over the interior of the Buddhist Monasteries to draw attention to anyone entering the premises unlawfully. Although the Lhasa Apso can be quite playful and lively, they are often put off by the rough and tumble activity of small children and are better suited to an older family. Being a hypoallergenic breed, these dogs are well suited to owners/families with allergies. Lhasa Apsos come in both long and short haired varieties.
