We stock a variety of bark collars, and yes we know this can make choosing the right bark collar difficult on face value. However, we believe it is not a one collar fits all dogs scenario. When it comes to barking, having a selection of different options ensures we have the right product to fix any barking issue. So let us help you find it!
To effectively solve your barking issue, the correction delivered to your dog must be greater in consequence than the dog's desire (drive) to bark. In no way should it be overwhelming to the dog or cause undue anxiety. We use the term ‘minimalist intervention.’ We want to use the lowest correction possible to achieve the desired objective.
Breed, age, size, temperament and the reason for barking all play a key role in choosing the right bark collar to meet your requirements.
Electric Bark Collars Electric or static bark collars are the most successful type of barking collar. We believe they have a 99% success rate once you have the right collar for your dog. We believe they are suitable for all breeds but are a definite recommendation for working breed dogs that are strong in temperament. Why are they so effective? Because all good quality collars have adjustable levels, allowing you to increase the correction if required.
The minimum age for using an electric bark collar is generally six months. Citronella Collars Spray collars are suitable for many dogs.
Pet breeds like Poodles, Shih Tzus, Bichons have the greatest success rates using citronella bark collars. That is not a guarantee of success for you though. You may have that very determined little barker that barks through the citronella spray. Your dog may also build resistance over time as they become used to the spray deterrent. Unfortunately, there is no way to increase the correction level on a spray barking collar. At the end of the day, ‘a spray is a spray.’ Also, keep in mind dogs that run and bark at the same time or barking outside on windy days can result in the spray blowing away from the dog's snout and making them ineffective.
Ultrasonic Bark Collars Ultrasonic barking collars have a limited success rate and depend on whether your dog is susceptible to the tone or not. Many dogs are not. We do not recommend them for multi-dog situations where other dogs can be forced to deal with the unpleasant tones because another dog is barking. Resistance to ultrasonic bark collars can occur over time.
Vibration Bark Collars A barking collar that vibrates when your dog barks are only suitable for pups and very timid dogs. They generally startle the dog initially and can break the barking cycle. They also are very prone to working less over time as dogs generally build a resistance to them the more they experience the correction and become less startled by it.
