Cattle Dogs, also known as Blue Heelers, or ‘Blueys’, were originally bred as herding working dogs for Australian conditions - which required stamina, strength, boldness, and drive. The Australian Cattle Dog's intelligence, loyalty, energy and stocky build make them a reliable working dog trusted by farmers across the country. Considered low maintenance, this breed doesn’t require a lot beyond regular exercise and basic care which makes them a great companion for families and older dog owners. In saying that, boredom may result in negative behaviours such as barking and digging which is why regular exercise and new environments are recommended. The Australian Cattle Dog loves to please their owners, however, it's important that they know who's boss from a young age.
Bark Collars for Cattle Dogs
The best type of anti-bark collar for an adult Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler is a static electric bark collar. Due to their strong, determined working nature, owners of Cattle Dogs traditionally have had a very low success rate with citronella spray collars, vibration collars, and ultrasonic bark collars. Static electric bark collars offer the most consistent and effective form of correction to control nuisance barking. The only situation we recommend a citronella spray collar in is if your Cattle Dog is under 6 months of age. To view our collar recommendations, please view our product recommendation charts below.
