What is the best Bark Collar for my Shih Tzu or Maltese?

Maltese and Shih Tzu Dog Breeds
The Maltese and Shih Tzu dog breeds are regarded as gentle and fearless, greeting everyone like a long-lost friend. Sweet and intelligent by nature, Maltese and Shih Tzus are devoted to their owners and are eager to please. Due to their size, these dogs are well suited to apartment living, but with that said, their delicate looks can be deceiving - they can be a pocket rocket full of energy! They're quick to learn new things, and like all dog breeds, it's important to train them from a young age so that they know their place, boundaries, and expectations.
Bark Collars for Maltese Dogs
We're no stranger to bark collar inquiries related to Maltese or Shih Tzu dogs - these small dogs can become quite a strong yapper given the chance! Citronella spray bark collars can be an effective form of bark control with Shih Tzu or Maltese dogs with a timid temperament but may not be successful for dogs with a high drive to bark. If your dog has a stubborn temperament, we recommend a static electric bark collar.
For puppies under 6 months old.
For puppies under 6 months old, we generally don't recommend using any form of bark control because puppies still need to be puppies, however, in situations where your Shih Tzu or Maltese puppy has taken barking to a whole new level, we only recommend using the PetSafe Deluxe Little Dog Spray PBC00-11283 Bark Collar. You can find more information about this collar at the bottom of this page.
