Reliable and intelligent, the Australian Kelpie was, and still is, primarily bred as a working dog on livestock properties. Their endurance and intelligence are perfect traits for working conditions which is why they are trusted by livestock farmers across the country. Their friendly personality makes them a great family pet, however, as a pet, this independent thinker can become a handful. Australian Kelpies are an ideal choice for people who lead active lifestyles. They require daily physical and mental stimulation to prevent them from developing nuisance behaviour including excessive barking. Scroll down to view our bark collar recommendations for Kelpies.
For adult Kelpies, we only recommend static electric bark collars. Static electric bark collars are the only form of bark control that delivers the most consistent form of correction strong enough to control excessive barking. Because they are a highly driven and determined working breed, Kelpie owners have a very low success rate with citronella, vibration, and ultrasonic bark collars.
If your Kelpie is under 6 months old, we only recommend citronella spray collars. If barking habits continue as they get older, we recommend upgrading to a static electric bark collar.
